Russia's Far East Asking For VJ Day Public Holiday

Officials at the annual celebration of the end of the second world war in the Pacific (VJ Day) in Vladivostok have called on the central government of Russia to recognize that event, in the same manner as it recognizes the end of the second world war in Europe (VE Day).

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation had rejected a request to make September 2, a national public holiday.
