Malaysia: Possible Election Day Public Holiday In Penang State

Sources: The New Straits Times and Malaysia public holidays (qppstudio.net). Speaking to reporters, earlier today, Penang State Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng, said that he may yet declare a election day one-off state-wide public holiday, on Tuesday, August 26, 2008.

Update (August 23) In the end, it was announced by Education Director-General, Datuk Alimuddin Mohd Dom, that the Tuesday, August 26, 2008, special polling day holiday would be limited to all primary, secondary and government-aided schools in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency. After consultations with Education Minsiter, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, it was decided that the lost school day would not need to be compensated.
