Spain's Melilla Government To Revisit Feast Of Sacrifice As Public Holiday

Sources: Diario Sur (Malaga) and Spain public holidays (qppstudio.net). After last year's failure of a draft law making the Islamic festival of Aid El Kebir (Feast of Sacrifice) a regional public holiday in the Spanish autonomous region of Melilla, the CpM (CoaliciĆ³n por Melilla) has now petitioned the regional governemt directly for the inclusion of this festival in the list of the autonomous region's list of public holidays.

To avoid the issue of declaring an additional public holiday, the CpM proposes that instead of giving a day in lieu for a public holiday that falls on a Sunday, that extra day be allotted to the official celebration of the Aid El Kebir festival. The regional government now has until July 30th to state its position.
