Indonesia Announces 2009 Government Public Holidays

Sources: The Jakarta Post (Jakarta) and Indonesia public holidays (qppstudio.net). Yesterday, the coordinating Minister for the People's Welfare, Aburizal Bakrie, announced the 2009 public holidays joint decree, signed by the coordinating minister for people's welfare, the state minister for administrative reforms, the religious affairs minister and the manpower and transmigration minister.

The 2009 Additional Government holidays (introduced in 2002 to boost tourism) will be limited to to four days: September 18 and 23, 2009 (Idul Fitri), December 24 to observe Christmas and January 2, 2010 for the New Year -- from five this year and six last year.

Recall from our post of February 5, that, in addition, civil servants are no longer allowed to take a long weekend leave in addition to a holiday that falls on Thursday or Tuesday.
