The president of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, has abolished a public holiday honoring the birthday of his predecessor, Saparmurat Niyazov, whose February 19 birthday was one of Turkmenistan's most important public holidays.Note, however, that Saparmurat Niyazov had the forethought to create another public holiday, also on February 19, called Flag Day, which will not be cancelled. This mean that those who wish to continue to celebrate Saparmurat Niyazov's birthday will continue to have a day off to do so.
