Sources: The New York Sun and USA public holidays. In our post of June 2, we reported how the seemingly defunct idea of making election day a public holiday, had gotten a new lease on life, through the support of Senators Hillary Clinton and Diane Feinstein.
But earlier in the week, New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, jumped into a debate over whether Election Day should be a public holiday, saying that he was against it and that there is no excuse why city employees have an election Day public holiday. He went on to say that addressing this issue was not at the top of his list of priorities, but that he wanted to state his feelings on the matter, for the record.
