Sources: El Panamá América and Panama public holidays. As we had reported in out posts of October 14, September 17, August 25, and August 8, the re-establishment of días puente (the moving of mid-week fixed-date public holidays to the following Monday) has been a hot topic recently in Panama, and a draft law (proyecto de ley 351) went into commission in mid-October.
With the Independence Day public holiday coming soon (November 28), matters have come to a head, and an emergency session of the legislative assembly has been called to vote the law in time to move the effective date of the upcoming Independence Day public holiday, from Wednesday November 28, to Monday, December 3.
Note that the immediate application of any law passed between now and the 28th of November, could only occur if it is sanctioned by a presidential decree.
