Chile's Parliament To Vote Next Tuesday On September 17 One-Off Public Holiday

Sources: La Segunda, Radio Cooperativa, and Chile public holidays. The socialist deputy, Sergio Aguiló, one of the supporters of the bill to make Monday, September 17, 2007, a one-off public holiday in Chile, is ramping-up support before next Tuesday's vote in Parliament.

Analysis: Recall from our news posting of July 10, that a bill was proposed to make Monday, September 17, 2007, a one-off public holiday, to bridge the gap between the weekend and the annual 2-day Fiesta Patrias of September 18 and 19. Deputy Aguiló's main argument is that most people have half the day off on September 17, anyways, and civil servants and upper and middle management set things up to have the day off also, leave only the underlings (perraje) stuck in the offices and factories.
