Sources: The Daily Times, our post of April 3 and Malawi public holidays. With 6 days to go before the date of May 14, 2007, the first occurrence of the new annual public holiday in honour of of the country’s first president Ngwazi Kamuzu Banda, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) will take advantage of the forthcoming sitting of the National Assembly to express its dismay over "the executive’s continued unwillingness" to declare, and gazette as such, the new May 14 public holiday which had passed unanimously during the last sitting of Parliament.
Analysis: Although 6 days seems like a short delay, those who read this blog regularly will recall holidays announced on a much tighter schedule, some the day before, and some even at noon of the date of the holiday! Therefore we think that it is still possible that the Kamuzu public holiday, may yet be declared between now and May 14, 2007. We will continue to monitor developments.
