At the request of the Electoral Commission of Nicaragua, the Labor Minister of Nicaragua, Jeannette Chávez Gómez, issued the ministerial decision JCHG - 012-11-08 declaring 3 days of public holidays for the upcoming municipal elections.
These 3 days of paid nationwide public holidays (asueto con goce de salario, a nivel nacional) will be Friday, Saturday and Monday, November, 7-8-10, 2008. Separate municipal elections are scheduled for Sunday, January 18, 2009, in the Caribe Norte (northern part of Nicaragua) which sustained heavy damages from hurricane Felix in September 2007.
Update (Nov-5) The Ministry of Labour of Nicaragua (MITRAB) released ordinance JCHG-013-11-08 which modifies ordinance JCHG-012-11-08 with respect to the status of the upcoming November 7-8 municipal elections public holidays, making them holidays to be taken out of yearly vacations instead of paid holidays as originally announced.
Update (Nov-6) In what is the third modification this week, the Ministry of Labour of Nicaragua (MITRAB) has announced that it was rescinding ordinances JCHG-013-11-08 and JCHG-012-11-08, relative to the public holidays for the upcoming municipal elections. Friday, November 7, 2008, will be a public holiday for civil servants only, while Monday, November 10, 2008, will remain a full paid public holiday for all.
