Russia's Parliament To Consider Banning Valentines' Day And Halloween

Sources: USA Today, Pravda, and Russia public holidays. Taking its cue from the Russian President's wife, Svetlana Medvedeva (our post of June 20), the Duma (Russia's parliament) will soon consider a law banning from all Russian educational institutions any celebration of Saint Valentines' Day and Halloween.

These 2 celebrations have recently been under growing attacks as "leading to moral decay". In 2003, Halloween had been banned from the schools of the Russian capital by Moscow's education department, while Saudi Arabia's religious police bans the selling of red items (in particular flowers) on Valentine's Day.
