Zambia Could Declare A Public Holiday On September 3

Sources: Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) and Zambia public holidays (qppstudio.net). The president of the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), Leonard Hikaumba, has called on the Government of Zambia to declare a one-off national non-working public holiday on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008, on the day of the funeral of President Levy Mwanawasa.

The government of Zambia has not reacted yet to this, and other similar requests, but we think that is is likely that a public holiday will be declared on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008, in Zambia.

Update (Monday, August 25) Acting Zambian president, Rupiah Banda, declared as a public holiday Wednesday, September 3, 2008, the day on which the late President Levy Mwanawasa is to be interred, and which would have been his 60th birthday.
