Venezuela Adopts Law To Move Public Holidays To Nearest Weekend

Sources: Ministerio de Comunicación e Información (Caracas) and Venezuela public holidays (qppstudio.net). A revised organic law of tourism (Gaceta Oficial Extraordinaria 5.889 del 31 de julio) includes, for the first time in Venezuela, the concept of moving mid-week public holidays to the nearest weekend, to promote internal tourism.

Article 7 of the aforementioned law stipulates that, subject to case-by-case decrees, when a public holiday in Venezuela occurs on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, then it may be moved to adjoin the nearest weekend.

As with any organic law, the devil is in the details (ie. the implementation decrees) and we will publish a detailed follow-up update as soon as we obtain them from the qppstudio.net contacts in Venezuela.
