Antigua and Barbuda Half-Day Public Holiday On September 1st

Sources: The Antigua Sun and Antigua and Barbuda public holidays (qppstudio.net). Yesterday, Prime Minister, Baldwin Spencer, announced that cabinet had approved a recommendation making Monday, September 1, 2008, a one-off, half day national public holiday to be observed as a day of prayer and fasting by the entire nation.

This follows a series of recent crimes and calls by the representatives from many church and women's groups asking the government to declare a national holiday to allow the people to assemble as one to repent, both for their own and the nation’s sins and seek God’s blessings.
