Sources: AFP and Zimbabwe public holidays. President Robert Mugabe, through the Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Notice 2008, has declared Saturday, March 29, 2008, a public holiday to enable workers to vote in the presidential, parliamentary and local government elections. Banks and businesses, normally open on Saturdays, will be closed on that day, while most retailers may remain open.
The AFP reports that to vouch for the openness and fairness of these upcoming elections, President Mugabe invited election observers from China, Russia and Iran.
