The government of Macedonia declared today a national public holiday to enable the maximum number of people to participate in today's “plant your future” campaign which is part of a bigger programme that envisages planting some 10 million trees by the end of 2008. Macedonia was hit by a series of wildfires that raged across the whole Balkans region during the summer of 2007. This unexpected public holiday will be compensated by the coming Saturday, March 15, being a regular working day.
