Argentine Bill To Make International Women's Day A Public Holiday

Sources: Argentina's Parliamentary News Agency and Argentina public holidays. A bill has recently been introduced to the Argentine Legislature by Senator Haide Giri and Representatives Pedro Salvatori, María Colombo, Fabián Ríos and Carlos Rossi. This bill, if passed, would make March 8, International Women's Day a new public holiday in Argentina.

The proponents of this bill face an uphill battle, considering the general sentiment, in Argentina, that there are already enough public holidays, and the fact that if a new public holiday was to be declared, then a return of Carnival (the only remaining public holiday, abolished by the military junta, and which has not yet been restored) would be a clear first choice.
