Sources: The Standard (Nairobi) and Kenya public holidays. The ODM (Orange Democratic Movement) presidential candidate, and former cabinet minister, Mr Raila Odinga, told supporters at a recent rally, that he would make January 2 and 3, 2008, one-off public holidays if he is elected president in the upcoming December 27 elections.
This 2-day public holiday may very well become a reality since, as reported by the BBC, recent opinion polls put Mr Odinga more than 10 points ahead with 43-52% compared to 31-38% for Mr Kibaki, the current president, running for a second five-year term, having won an election in 2002 to replace former long-time leader Daniel arap Moi.
