India's Kerala Declares October 12 State Public Holiday

Earlier today, the government of the State of Kerala (whose population of 32 million is 24% Muslim) has announced that Friday, October 12, 2007 would be a public holiday as Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be celebrated on Saturday, October the 13th, which is already a holiday in Kerala, being the second Saturday of the month. This Friday day in lieu, one-off, holiday will apply to all educational institutions and state government employees.
