Kuwait Parliamentarians Want 10-Day End Of Ramadan Public Holiday

Sources: Kuwait Times and Kuwait public holidays. On Tuesday, members of the Parliament of Kuwait renewed calls for the government to declare the last 10 days of the month of Ramadan (running from September 13 to October 12, 2007, in Kuwait) as a public holiday to allow people to devote more time for worship.

The government has turned down similar proposals made in previous years saying that working hours during the holy month are already reduced, while the lawmakers have repeatedly reminded the government that some neighboring countries, notably Saudi Arabia, declare the last 10 days of Ramadan as a public holiday (sic).

Apart from the fact that this last quoted statement is incorrect (Saudi Arabia starts its Eid al Fitr public holiday only 5 days before the end of the month of Ramadan), this is unlikely to pass.
