Sources: El Nuevo Diario and Dominican Republic public holidays. Late yesterday, the Secretaría de Trabajo (SET, Ministry of Labour) announced the official list of 2008 public holidays in the Dominican Republic. The announcement confirmed that 2 of the mid-week public holidays would be moved to the following Monday, and that the day of the Presidential election would be a public holiday.
The announcement follows the text of the law governing public holidays in the Dominican Republic (Ley No. 139-97 mediante la cual los días feriados del calendario que coincidan con los días martes y miércoles, jueves o viernes serán trasladados de fecha) to the letter, and this annual announcement is more of a formality than a really suspenseful event.
