Canada: New Manitoba Public Holiday Confirmed And Baptized

Sources: Government of Manitoba, La Presse Canadienne and Canada public holidays. Manitoba's Labour Minister, Nancy Allan, has announced that the new provincial public holiday to be held on the third Monday of February (see our posts of April 8 and April 28) would be named after the historical figure, Louis Riel.

This, contrary to earlier reports had indicated that this new public holiday would be named "Family Day", in line with the name of the third Monday in February public holiday in Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Note that 2 other provinces, British Columbia and Ontario, are also considering adding a public holiday in February (see our news posts of February 17 and September 3).
