Late yesterday, Madagascar President, Marc Ravalomanana, declared tomorrow, Thursday, August 9, 2007, as a one-off public holiday to coincide with the first day of the 2007 Indian Ocean Games sporting event. Technically the public holiday is limited to public sector workers (colloquially called the "Mpiasam-bahoaka") but it is expected that the private sector will follow suit.
