Chile's Easter Island May Get Its Own Public Holiday

Sources: Mercopress and Chile public holidays. Late last week, the Chamber of Deputies of Chile approved a constitutional reform that designates both Easter Island (Rapa Nui) and the Juan Fernández archipelago as “special territories”. As part of the constitutional reform, the two territories will also establish many of their own laws, as well as set up new local government positions, and may very well declare their own public holiday, more related to its inhabitants' Polynesian ancestry, than the Catholic public holidays of Chile.

Analysis: Although no date or choice of a public holiday has been mentioned, so far, one very likely candidate would be somewhere near the Tapati Festival which lasts from the last week of January to the first week of February.
